Making a difference - one tree at a time.

Boss Phanpho —

Last Tuesday, Tikao House took a field trip to the Waimakariri River to plant 6 different types of native trees along a river bank. This was part of an initiative organised by Sustainable Coastlines, an organisation aiming to lift the quality of our waterways.

This trip ties into our term 3 inquiry of investigating a real-life issue. We learnt about how some of our waterways have been polluted by some farming methods and soil erosion. By planting native trees, this helps preserve our river banks and lifts the quality of our waterways.

On the day, we managed to plant 1,052 trees! This works out to be an average of 13 trees per student. This is a small contribution towards the wider issue but we hope that by sharing this experience with you, a little ‘seed’ has been planted in your heads.

You may be aware that this week is Conservation Week. There are numerous tree planting and conservation projects happening around our community. We encourage you to take part in something and do your bit in taking care of our environment.
