Water Polo Tournament Success for our Heaton Stars!

Tim Evers —

Heaton finishes runner up in the 2017 B Grade Canterbury Championships

This year's Canterbury Year 7/8 Water Polo Championships were a huge success for our Heaton team. With our fantastic coach Jess Aiken leading from the front, Heaton went from strength to strength over the two competition days.

We were faced with the challenging prospect of competing against some very experienced, and well trained opponents (Cobham, Chisnallwood, Casebrook, St Marks, Christ the King). With three wins from five matches in our qualification rounds, Heaton finished the pool play in third position.

With a place in the final on offer, our team's next challenge was a must win semi final match against a confident Chisnallwood side. Heaton performed beautifully, claiming a 7-6 victory in a tightly contested encounter.

All ten of our players made amazing contributions, giving it their absolute all in the championship match v. Christ the King (CTK). Down at half time, we never game up and rallied together, putting on three unanswered goals to apply a huge amount of pressure. CTK steadied the ship with a goal against the run of play, and had enough composure to see out a very spirited Heaton challenge, winning (8-5).

We are extremely proud of our whole team, and would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents/supporters, Manager (Mandy Anderson), and Coach (Jess Aitken).
