Elmwood Sailing

Joan Green —

On the 8th of March, Elmwood House went Sailing.

We hopped onto the bus and took off on our adventure!

When we all arrived we got off the bus one by one. We all split up into our classes and went to our instructors. They told us to get the materials to build our own sail boats. After 15-20 minutes we finished creating our sail boat. The instructors showed us how to sail the boat so we could practice while still on land. Some of us found that hard but some found it easy. Afterwards we had morning tea while discussing the sailing on the water, which was about to happen.

The instructors told us to get changed into our sailing gear, then we received our life jackets. The instructors hopped into their motorboats and took a sail boat each out onto the lake. For the majority of children it was their first go at sailing. Some capsized, but others successfully completed their lap around the the buoy on the lake. After we all had a turn, the instructors got more boats and we would get a turn in the time space of 10 minutes.

During lunch we were all buzzing about the fun we had during the first part of the morning’s sailing escapades.

After lunch we had another opportunity to sail for another hour and a half, until we had to begrudgingly change into our dry clothes and pack up, ready for departure.

After thanking our instructors, we were back in the bus chatting to our friends about the wonderful adventure we shared.
