Careers - Can you help?  Wednesday, 6 December, 9.30 - 10.15 a.m.

Sue Sugrue —

Careers 2017 - Can you help?

As part of our inquiry unit on Feeling Great: Challenge and Change, we want our students to be thinking about their future and begin to set goals. We are keen for them to have an understanding of different career opportunities and the skills, qualifications and experience that are needed.

Year 7 and Year 8 students will attend a career session on Wednesday, 6 December. The sessions are from 9.30 – 10.15 a.m. There will be about 25 students in a group and one of our teachers will be present with each group.

Our students have a wide range of interests so we are keen for them to hear about as many different careers as possible.

Please complete the following if you are able to come and talk to our students about your career. You will be sent more information closer to the time.

Consider your registration of interest to be an acceptance of your kind offer. Please mark this in your diary now if you have volunteered to speak.

Guidelines for Careers Speakers

We want our students to start goal setting and thinking about career possibilities and the skills and qualifications that are necessary.

I have put together some ideas for areas you may want to talk about. In addition, any visual or hands on material you can show the students would be appreciated.

  1. What are the key tasks in your job?
  2. Why did you decide to do your job?
  3. What qualifications do you have for your job?
  4. What particular skills do you need to do your job?
  5. What do you particularly enjoy about your job?
  6. What are the challenges in your job?
  7. What advice do you have for a young person wanting to do your job?

You will have about 20/25 minutes to talk and students will have about 15 minutes for questions.

Please come to the school office by 9.20 a.m. (You will be taken to the classroom by a student leader. One of our teachers will be in the class with you.

Please contact the office if you need any equipment such as a data projector.

Thank you again.
