New artworks for Heaton
The annual MUKA print exhibition at Christchurch Art Gallery
Last month Emma and her mother met me at the Christchurch Art Gallery to choose two artworks for Heaton to add to our MUKA collection in the LRC. The MUKA Youth Prints exhibitions have been running for over 33 years. The aim of this project is to encourage young people to be involved in choosing art, regardless of who the artist is or price. The prints are shown in a special room and signatures are covered up. No adults are allowed! Emma chose two beautiful prints, one by a German Artist and one by an African Artist. Look out for them in the LRC and find out more about them when they have been framed and hung.

Choosing the MUKA prints was a very exciting experience. It was strange how adults weren’t allowed in the room and that we couldn’t see who the artist was or where the art was made. I think it was a really good idea as this made you pick something that you really liked. I enjoyed looking at all the prints and having the opportunity to pick two for the school.
