Office @ Heaton —

Kia ora whānau

It is great to experience the warm weather especially as we have Year 8 classes on camp and Year 7 students doing activity days. Many thanks to parents/whānau who have supported these important opportunities for our students.

A reminder that we have Careers Morning coming up on Thursday 21 November, 9.30-10.15 am and we still need at least 12 more people to talk about their careers for this to be able to be organised for our students. Please contact the office if you can help.

At this this time of year, we are all working together to ensure a fabulous finish to the year for everyone. Boys in particular become more physical in the “spring fever” season. We are very clear with all our students that at no time is pushing, shoving, kicking, punching, hitting, tackling acceptable. Our students are able to play touch but rugby or rugby league is not permitted at break times. These games need adult supervision in order to prevent unsafe behaviour. We have to be very clear with our students. It is just too easy for a push or shove to turn into something a lot more serious. Can you please talk to your children about this.

Issues arising from inappropriate use of social media continue to escalate. This happens out of school time and while we are very happy to support and advise you and your child, it is not our role to investigate these issues or deal with them directly. I strongly advise parents to take control of their child’s use of social media. If your child receives something inappropriate take a screen shot, contact the other child’s parents if you know them, or contact the Police. Also block the person sending inappropriate comments/photos or just keep your child right off social media. Our students are often not mature enough to be able to handle the various challenges and consequences they may have to face from social media.

Ngā mihi
