Heaton Voices Speak Out

Joan Green —

Congratulations to our Heaton speech competitors: Olivia Rm12, Katie Rm9, Evie Rm18, Ben Rm2, and Shimeka Rm4

Just before the Term 3 holiday, this talented group of students battled it out in the Rotary Speech Competition. The competition was tough but highly entertaining. The audience was impressed by the incredible skill level of these students: their effort, talent, and resilience, as well as the energy and practice involved.

Ben was the Year 8 division winner. His speech on homelessness and the importance of challenging it was really powerful. Evie, Shimeka, Katie, and Olivia were all Highly Commended.

The Rotary judges were very impressed by our Heaton team this year. Our students challenged them to think about issues such as the homeless, racism, teenage mental health, and the plight of children suffering in the Ukraine war.

Congratulations to all who participated in class, house, school, and Rotary speech competitions this year.
