Chess Tournament, by Marina, Room 14

Office @ Heaton —

On Monday the 14th of August, a very gloomy and rainy day, Heaton Intermediate hosted the Canterbury Regional Chess tournament. We had twelve pupils to compete in this event. There were many people from different primary, intermediate and high schools participating.

Once the First round started there was absolute silence. You could only hear the tapping of the time and maybe a few ‘check’s. When the round was over everyone shook hands and said, “good game.” They had to wait for everyone else to finish and in the meantime they could relax or recover from the game they had just completed.

This carried on for 6 other rounds, 7 in total. After the 7 rounds had finished, everyone took a seat waiting for the results to be called out. Everyone who got less than 4 wins got a certificate for participation, 4-5 wins received a credit. The people who were AMAZING with 6-7 wins got a certificate and an invitation to Nationals.

Four people from Heaton got certificates, invitations AND medals. Heaton is very proud to have the chess club do such a good job of representing our school. Special thanks to teachers, parents and helpers for coming to support us ( Also Ms Christie and Jane for helping us!)
