Welcome to Term 3. I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday with your family and friends and are ready for a fabulous spring term.

We had a great start with an amazing Open Night last Thursday. It was a particularly miserable night but we had a very high attendance. I am always overwhelmed by the huge amount of positive feedback I receive on Open Night about our wonderful students and staff. About 300 of our 570 students were involved in Open Night which is fantastic. They are very proud of their school and are so keen to talk to younger students and families about their experiences. Open Night is a huge event for our staff who all provide our visitors with all the information that they need in such a warm and friendly way.

A big thank you to Lucy and Luca, Head girl and boy and Lily and Will, Deputy head girl and boy for their wonderful speeches as well as for joining me so enthusiastically when I went to talk to our local schools about our Open Night.

At assembly this week I reminded students about the importance of being safe and considerate towards others when using the roads and footpaths on their way to and from school. We have been specifically requested by St George’s that students don’t take a short cut through their grounds. There are lots of cars coming and going and it is extremely unsafe. Students are also not to go through the Elmwood Normal School grounds on their way to and from school. It is an extremely busy place with many young children.

You may be aware that much of the main Heaton field is under water at the moment. It is unlikely that it will be able to be used this term. Tim Evers and our staff are working hard to use a range of spaces for sports practices and PE. Overall our students are coping very well with the restricted space.

This term we are looking forward to our school production that will be held in the last week of the term. Students and staff are working very hard for the show to be an amazing experience for everyone.
