Tikao House Camp

Lucy Watson —

Three days of excitement, fun and new opportunities!

In week 4 Tikao house went to the Waipara Adventure Centre for their Year 8 camp. We participated in a range of activities like tree climbing, faulty towers, air rifles and the waterslide. While we were doing these activities we were learning a lot of useful skills. This was a great way for us all to push ourselves out of our comfort zone, work as a team, and give everything a try.

Wednesday was our first day at camp, we all got to school and went on our bus journey for an hour to start the river walk. The river walk taught us valuable skills to use when out walking around rivers, such as where to cross a river, how to cross a river, and what to do if you are stuck drifting down a current. We started activities after our packed lunch and settled into our bunkrooms. After our first meal as a house group, we took part in Team Challenges which required us to nominate a team member for each challenge. Some of our favourite challenges were, fastest to eat a dry weet-bix, prone hold, and fear factor which included a delicious drink with tuna, vinegar, ginger, spinach and many more disgusting things!

On Thursday, it was a super busy day with four rotations. We had a beautiful sunny day so we loved the water activities like the water slide and raft building. After dinner, we all enjoyed spending time at the water hole and then playing spotlight on the field with a Tikao twist. After changing into our pyjamas we settled down for a night of good sleep.

On our last day, we ate lots of breakfast, packed up our bunkrooms and completed two more activity rotations in the sun. We had burgers for lunch, said goodbye to our amazing instructors and then drove home in the hot stuffy bus exhausted from our full-on 3 days at camp!
