Kapa haka Tūhono competitions

Office @ Heaton —

Part of our large kapa haka group, mainly Year 8 students, worked hard towards participating in two very important competitions in Term 3 and it certainly paid off. Being in the kapa haka group at Heaton is a great experience. It has allowed us to improve in every aspect of kapa haka with excellence and integrity.

The kapa haka whānau at Heaton this term, had two competitions in Week 9. Thursday 21st September was a showcase held at St Andrew's College. Friday the 22nd was a competition held at Hillview Christian College. We were all very privileged to be competing for beautifully designed and carved trophies. Each competion had an award for the best haka, the best waiata with actions (waiata-a-ringa), and the overall best choral piece (waiata). Extra awards were given out at Hillview for 1st and 2nd place and overall group winner.

We were all smiling and feeling very proud of the Heaton Kapa haka group 2017, coming home with a whopping 4 trophies in total. The trophies were for 1st place Haka at STAC, 1st place intermediate song ( actions included ), 1st place intermediate choral (waiata without actions) and 1st place overall intermediate champion.

Our names will stay engraved in our memories and this moment will never be forgotten. Best kapa haka year ever.
