Cantamath Competition at Christchurch Arena

On the 24 of August 2022, the Cantamath competition was held at the Christchurch Arena.

The Year 7 and Year 8 Heaton teams had been training hard. It was a tense and nerve-racking competition where the Year 7 Heaton team went into a rare tiebreaker. We all waited in suspense as the two teams worked really hard on their final question. The Heaton team ran up first but unfortunately got it wrong resulting in our team placing a tremendous 2nd out of 80 teams.

The runners worked very hard running back to forth even when our Year 8 runner Alfred fell over but got back up, persevering as the team worked out the question. The Year 8 team also did really well. We were up with the lead group until the 18th question when we got stuck on a difficult question allowing other teams to overtake. Despite this, we still did amazingly and came 5th. 

Overall, the Heaton teams did extremely well and we are proud of our efforts. We are thankful for our supporters who cheered us on through the hard questions. We’d also like to thank Becky Bates for her help with our training.
