Office @ Heaton —

Kia ora whānau

We have not had a great start with the winter sports’ season due to the many rainy days we have had. The Heaton field has reverted to a lake which the bird life is enjoying! One of the “musts” on our list of areas of the school that need refurbishment/rebuilding, is a completely new field and hopefully an all weather field. We are now in the Master Planning stage of the refurbishment/rebuilding process and are waiting to be contacted by the Ministry of Education about designs that have been developed for the school. I will keep you posted.

Thank you to Kit Clarkson and the whole Heaton team and students for all the energy and hard work that has gone into making the 40 Hour Famine a really successful and exciting event. It is something our students really get behind and just love knowing that they are making a difference for children who do not have a fraction of what they have. We look forward to seeing lots of running tomorrow!

Soon you will be receiving your first Linc-Ed posting about your child’s learning for the first part of this year. This will be followed up with learning conferences. Teachers are working very hard, not only learning about a new system but providing you and your child with purposeful information about learning progress and next steps.

Winter has definitely arrived and with it a lot of sickness. Please keep your child at home if he/she is unwell so that we can try and keep staff and students healthy. We also notice that many of our students do not wear coats on very wet days and are therefore sitting in wet clothing in their classrooms. I know, from when my children were this age, that it is often seen as “not cool” to wear a coat or jacket. It is essential though, that they do wear something that is weatherproof.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Nga mihi
