The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Heaton!

Jane Boniface —

An exciting event on the Heaton calendar that only happens once every two years is the Scholastic Book Fair. This will be held in the the library, Te Kāmata from the 12th to 16th June, with a Book Fair Evening on Wednesday 14th June, 6pm - 7.30pm. There will be a Book Character Dress Up Day on Wednesday 14th.

During Book Fair Week the library, Te Kāmata will be transformed into a pop-up bookshop! Students will be able to purchase books, stationery and posters during interval and lunchtimes.

We would love to see parents and whānau come to the Book Fair Evening on Wednesday 14th June, from 6pm to 7.30pm. EFTPOS or cash will be accepted and it would be great if you could BYO bag to pop your buys into.

As a special treat, there will be free ice creams at the Book Fair Evening. If you buy your child a book (or books), we will give them an ice cream!

Every purchase at the Book Fair benefits the school by way of a generous commission from Scholastic. After our last Book Fair in 2021 the school received $1,170 worth of free books!

Encouraging our children to read for pleasure is such an important and wonderful thing to do. Research shows there are a multitude of benefits of recreational reading, from improving educational outcomes to greater happiness and social success!

So, whether or not you buy your child a new book at the Book Fair, please keep encouraging them to borrow and read books from the library, Te Kāmata - or anywhere else they can lay their hands on them.

Thank you for your support. See you at the fair!
