Win a Kindle in the Book Chat Face Snap competition

Jane Boniface —

Enter the Heaton "Book Chat Face Snap" competition with your child - as well as the opportunity to bond over a book, you may win a Kindle!

Encouraging our children to read for fun is incredibly important. In fact, "reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child's future success" (OECD, 2002).

Parents, teachers and librarians all play a vital role in ensuring children discover the joy of reading.   We should all model reading for pleasure ourselves,  make sure they have access to books that appeal to them,  and provide them with the time and environment to read. It's also essential to show an interest in what our children are reading. With this in mind we have created a brand new competition: Book Chat Face Snap (ask you child to show you the accompanying actions!)

To enter Book Chat Face Snap a parent/caregiver and child must read the same chapter from a book chosen by the child. This could happen in one of three ways: parent and child read the chapter independently; the child reads aloud to the parent, or vice versa.

Next is the "Book Chat". Parent and child discuss what they have read - what do you think of it so far? What do you think is going to happen next? etc

Then the "Face Snap". Have a photo taken of the two of you having your Book Chat. Email the photo to Bonifacej@heaton.school.nz or send me a print copy by Tuesday 24th October.  Your photo may be published on the school website or displayed on the LRC.  Please let me know if you do not want your photo published.

One entry will be drawn at random, the parent will be phoned and will have to answer a few questions to show they have completed the conditions of the competition. If successful they will win the Kindle.

Good luck and -  enjoy your Book Chat with your child!
