Kākahu

by Fiona Taylor

In Visual Art/Toi Ataata we focused on the themes ‘Kirituna’/Resilience and Wellbeing/Whakapūawai. Using the metaphor of a Kākahu we looked at what was important to us, our strengths and how these protect us and help create our identity. We experimented with a wide variety of materials, techniques and ideas, with reference to artists from around the world. There was a particular focus on ceramics as a medium and the importance of clay/uku in human civilisation and its connection to Papatūānuku.
