Animals @ HVS
Olive (Rachel Ono's dog) has made a few appearances at school over the past couple of weeks. It's often hard to tell who is more excited, Olive or the tamariki that she is there. We have also had our neighbours cat Timmy visiting us at break times and enjoying an endless supply of pats and games with flax leaves.
Over the years there have been a few other four-legged visitors at school. For many years we had a school cat called Storm who had his own sleeping basket on the library desk. Storm lapped up the attention he constantly received and the community was very good at supplying bags of cat biscuits so he never went hungry.
Other visitors included Kimi, our former caretaker Brett's dog and Olivia, a previous teacher aide brought her horse in to show her class.
From photos in the Archives Room, we can see that the Ferrymead Clydesdales once pulled a trailer around the front court, which also saw a Pet Day & Parade. Horse riding has featured in previous school camps, and classes have in the past visited the Heathcte Valley Riding Club.
