Whānau Chants
Success Criteria for the Whānau Chant
We are running a competition to see which tamariki can come up with a chant for each of our houses; Deavoll, Flavell, Truscott and Laing. Next year we will have chants that the teams will call out before events to boost everyone's energy and get them ready for whatever it may be (for example our tabloid sports days and whole school events).
There are some fantastic examples of chants that the tamariki from Beckenham School have come up with on their website that they have told us they are excited for us to check out for inspiration!
Your child can submit their entries digitally by emailing them through to: mattg@hvs.school.nz or by bringing them into the post box in the senior room. Please make sure that their names are on these.
Criteria for your chant:
Chant is no longer than 50 words
It includes repetition, rhyme, call and response or some other catch way to help people remember it.
Includes a short Māori phrase, kiwaha or whakatauki that links in with the ideas in your chant.
Has a focus around our school values - manaakitanga, manawaroa, auaha, kaitiakitanga and kotahitanga (not just naming them but representing them)
Is inclusive (you are not boasting you are bigger, better, stronger, faster, tougher or more special than other whānau groups).
Others will be proud to join your chant.
In short your chant should be about how your whānau group contributes to the school and encourages everyone to demonstrate our school values.
The top entries, judged by a panel of teachers, will receive a prize.
We look forward to seeing all the fantastic entries!
