School Donations

Te Tihi o Kahukura Heathcote Valley School —

Our community’s socio-economic status means our school is not eligible for the government’s school donations scheme. Our equity index means we receive less operational funding than other schools, and we don't qualify for other government funding and initiatives. Because of this, we rely heavily on locally raised funds, of which a large portion comes from voluntary school donations.

Donations

The HVS School Board has kept the school donation at $170 per child this year.

These donations help us to make our operational funding go further and support decisions such as extra learning support, professional development, leasing iPads, and supporting cultural, music, and sporting opportunities.

Tax Deductibility

Donations are tax-deductible at 33.3%. You can print donation receipts from Hero by logging in via a computer. You can access information about how to claim back your donations here.

Setting up regular weekly payments

Setting up a regular weekly payment is a great way to spread school-associated costs across the year. Depending on the number of children and their age this can be achieved by $5 - $10 per week payments. Our bank account number is:

12-3483-0003049-00

Please include your child's name in the reference.

Pay It Forward

We are fortunate to have some generous families who help support other families with their school donations. If you would like to support another child or family by paying their school donation you are most welcome to. You can make a payment to our school's bank account, please write 'Paying It Forward' in the particulars/reference. The school will allocate this to a family in more need, or if you would like it to go towards a specific family then please let Krystle (eo@hvs.school.nz) know. All 'Pay It Forward' donations are kept anonymous.

Equity Index Information

The Government has implemented an Equity Index for schools which replaces the previous decile numbering system. Those with an EQI of 432 and over can opt into the Government’s Donations Scheme and receive a payment from the Government of $154.13 per student per year. These schools are unable to request parental donations other than for school camps. The system was designed to alleviate the pressure and expectations around the payment of donations. Heathcote Valley School's’ EQI is 412 so we are not eligible to participate in this scheme. In a school such as ours, this means that we receive approximately $30,000 less in government funding than a school with a higher equity index number that can opt into the scheme.
