Kia ora whānau

Year 8 house camps have dominated Term 2 so far. I visited each camp and I was so proud of how well our students were getting on together and really making the most of all the learning opportunities. We were extremely fortunate with the weather! Thank you so much to our Year 8 house leaders and teachers, Tim Evers and to our wonderful parents/whānau who supported our teachers on each camp. These camps could simply not go ahead without parents/whānau being prepared to stay overnight, run activities and generally be on hand to help our teachers.

We are now moving into the winter sports season with basketball, water polo and the Inter-Intermediate Sports competition beginning next week. We have 350 of our 530 students in these competitive teams. Tim has also organised a varied and exciting sports programme for students who remain at school. I know there are students who have missed out on getting into teams that represent the school and this is not easy for them. We work very hard to provide as many sport and other types of opportunities as physically possible so that every student can be involved in as many extracurricular opportunities as possible. If your child is in Year 7 and has missed out on getting into a competitive sports team so far, encourage them, as we do, to keep persisting. They can feel very proud of putting themselves in a position where they may miss out and feel disappointed. Being able to cope and move on when something does not work out the way you want it to builds determination, resilience and also self-esteem.

Congratulations to the Kids Lit Quiz squad. Team 1 were placed 3rd and Team 2 were 9th out of 50 students. Well done for this fine achievement. Thank you very much to Jane Boniface and Gaye Roberts for their work.

Teachers are working hard on mid year reporting to you about your child’s progress. You will hear more about this soon.

Ngā mihi
