Kapa haka Whānau Performance

Chrissy Calder —

On the 13th of June, the Heaton Kapa Haka rōpū performed in front of our friends and whānau.

We shared songs from last year and songs that we have been taught this year. Our rōpū is made up of year 7 and 8 students. We all enjoyed the night and we were very proud of our first ever 2019 performance.

The performance wouldn’t have been as successful without our amazing tutors Matua Sonny, Tui and Mrs Calder.

We have been practising for the performance from the start of Term 1, once a week for an hour. We all put a lot of effort into the performance by trying to learn all the actions and lyrics to the songs and the haka.

This performance has been a big part of our prep for the Tūhono Kapa haka Competition in Term 3, which we are hoping to take out first place.
