40 Famine

Kit Clarkson —

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 40hr famine this year. This year Heaton raised over $16,000!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 40hr famine this year. Every year I am blown away by the commitment and contributions that Heaton students make to the 40hr famine. This year we held a school-wide run-a-thon and students participated individually and in teams over the weekend. They set impressive and creative challenges and stuck to them. Some of the student challenges this year were biking 40km, eating only four basic food items, riding a unicycle for 8kms, and 40hr without arguing with anyone.

The aim for everyone involved was to raise funds for children living in Sub-Saharan Africa. I am very proud to announce that this year Heaton raised $16,220.60. This is an incredible accomplishment that will be put to great use. $6 buys fast-growing seeds, that will give a family nutritious vegetables to eat or sell at the market. $41 provides a child facing extreme hunger with life-saving food for a whole month. While, $250 plants a community garden, helping an entire community get their five plus a day! With the funds raised this year, 64 community gardens could be planted!

A special shoutout needs to go to Room 5 for their tremendous efforts this year. They were the top earning class this year earning an incredible $3749! WELL DONE.
