Heaton Students Find their Voices!

Sarah Cumming —

Finding our voice is part of discovering our place in the world and our Heaton students certainly achieved this over Term 3. Voices from across the school have explored wide-ranging topics such as how to annoy your siblings and the benefits of breathing through your nose. Teachers have learned a lot!

Public speaking is considered to be one of the most common phobias and most of us avoid it at all costs! So it has been great to see students rising to the challenge, setting their own personal goals and choosing to present using either electronic platforms or face to face within a small group or in front of a class.

I am delighted to congratulate the excellence of all our students involved in this learning. A special thanks to all the parents, whānau and teachers who have been so supportive through this process, especially while coping with lockdown!

Congratulations to the finalists who represented their houses in the School Speech Competition and the winners who will represent our school next term in the Rotary and Intermediate Speech Competitions.
