Kia ora whānau

I am pleased to be able to let you know that we now have access to Mana Ake, a wellbeing and mental health support for students and families/whānau. We have 4 full time kaimahi (workers) available to us who have a range of experiences and professional expertise in supporting and working with young people and families/whānau who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs. Requests for support come from our school to Dylan Walls who is our liaison kaimahi. The other schools in our Mana Ake cluster, who share this resource, are Elmwood Normal School, St Albans School, Paparoa Street School, Waimairi School, Selwyn House School and Ferndale Special School. See the attached information about Mana Ake. Please contact your child’s teacher or me if you would like more information about Mana Ake.

Well done to Kit Clarkson for her enthusiasm and organisation of the 40 Hour famine activities last Friday. Once again, we are aiming to raise at least $10,000 for this very worthy cause.

The weather was kind for the school cross country last week. Thank you to Tim Evers and the sports leaders for all the organisation. Well done to most students who really pushed themselves to complete the 3km course by either running or walking or a mix of both. It was great to see the attendance of so many parents/whānau.

We have an exciting week coming up with the Book Fair this week and on Wednesday night from 6.00 - 7.30 pm and a performance by our Kapa haka on Thursday evening from 6.00 -7 pm.

With the cold weather upon us, we have had a significant increase in sickness. We ask that you keep your child at home if he or she is unwell. This is the same advice I give to our staff! The best way to avoid the spread of the various lurgies that are going around is to stay at home until you are well.

Ngā mihi
