Head Girl: Rebecca Yuan

Hamilton Girls' High School —

Our Head Girl, Rebecca Yuan, reflects on her time at Hamilton Girls' High School.

He mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Kiaorana, talofa lava, bula vinaka, sawubona, nǐ hǎo. My name is Rebecca Yuan, and it is my absolute privilege to serve as Head Girl for 2022.

Hamilton Girls’ High School is not just a place where I come for an education; these past 4 years have shown me that it is more than just a school. It has become a growing network of support, a caring sisterhood, and a place that allows me to better myself and those around me. But most importantly, it has allowed me to find a community of students and staff who constantly show me encouragement, kindness and give me guidance as I continue on this journey. I have been fortunate enough to thrive in such a welcoming, accepting and compassionate environment during my time here, and I know that future students will too.

Whāia te mātauranga hei oranga mō koutou - seek after learning, for the sake of your wellbeing. If you follow the path of learning, the world will be your oyster. Here at Hamilton Girls’ High, each young woman is guided towards an individualised pathway well-suited to them and who they are. You will always be provided with the support and resources you need to achieve your aspirations, whatever they may be.

I encourage everyone to embrace your identity, be brave enough to share your ideas, and have the courage to follow your intuition as you navigate your way through the world. I'll leave you with this Chinese proverb; Shu shan you lu qin wei jing, xue hai wu ya ku zuo zhou. Diligence is the path to the mountain of knowledge, hard work is the boat to the endless sea of learning.

May you pursue your hopes and dreams, and may your journey be wonderful.
