Media Studies Red Carpet Night 2022

Brittany Kenny —

Old Hollywood meets Hamilton Girls' High School at this year's Media Studies Red Carpet night.

The Media Studies Department had an awesome event on Wednesday evening of Week 2,Term 4 - the long anticipated Media Studies Red Carpet Night. The event - which was held on a smaller scale two years ago - was canceled last year due to Covid. This was the first opportunity to hold the evening in all its glory. The theme for the night was ‘Old Hollywood’ chosen by the Year 13 Media class. The red carpets were rolled out and students, teachers, friends and whānau came dressed in their best to impress.

The evening is a chance for all three levels of Media students to invite actors, friends, family and teachers to come and view their work. The NCEA projects for the practical work in Media Studies take a great deal of time to create and are worthy of showing off. Prizes were awarded at the end of the evening - notably for best productions at each year level. Best Advertisement in Level 1 went to Zoie Bacal, Shine Labores and Sophia Todd for their sharp and snappy advertisement for a teleporting necklace. In Level 2 the Best Trailer went to Natasha Bainbridge and Hannah Corin who created a creepy film about a cult of teen girls trying to get away with murder. Finally, the Best Short Film went to group members Te Aniwaniwa Leefe, Beth McNaughton and Chloe Dangawen for their film Red Handed staring Best Actor Ngamihi Lydon.

Thanks to everyone who came out to view the films and to all those who have supported students in their work throughout the year. Despite what it may seem - it takes a whole lot of people to produce a film! From the person who comes up with the idea, to the dad who is driving the crew around, the mom who lends her clothes and makeup, to the teacher who fills in as a voice actor - everyone has an important role in the final product. Looking forward to next year's Red Carpet evening. To all leaving Year 13s (and Year 12s) best of luck and stay in touch!
