Success at Sheilah Winn Regionals
A group of Year 11 Drama students won the Regional Sheilah Winn Shakespeare in Schools Competition and head to the Nationals in Wellington in June to represent Waikato.
The scene from The Tempest was directed by Sophia Bankers, Frankie Waldron and Ivy Brunskill and uses physical theatre techniques to show the shipwreck at the beginning of the play. Eighteen highly polished scenes were presented by Waikato schools at the competition and the standard was very high, with all scenes interpreting Shakespeare's work with freshness and creativity.
Hamilton Girls' High School has had considerable success in recent years in the Sheilah Winn Competition. We have represented Nationally every year since 2017, and have won 5 top awards at National level. Three of our students have been selected for the National Youth Shakespeare Company and in 2022, Eden Peters was selected for the World Youth Shakespeare Company and travelled to London where she worked with top directors and performed at the Globe Theatre. Good Luck to this year's team as they prepare for their trip to the Nationals.
