World Vision Youth Conference
The World Vision Youth Conference was held at the Trusts Events Centre in Auckland.
One focus of the conference was leadership and how it can be seen and used by students in our everyday lives. Massive world issues, for example global warming, were also highlighted. We were shown the negative effects that have been caused and how we can help prevent or stop them. One of the speakers, Faiesea Ah Chee, explained what it was like growing up having had to move to a whole new country. She talked about her love for public speaking and attributed this to her grandmother who had helped her to be confident and to just be herself when speaking. The second speaker was Tim Read who told us how hard life was for him. He explained what motivated him through the bad times and how he focused and changed after facing many personal issues.
The conference was an inspirational experience that made us feel more informed about global issues. It was also beneficial having young people come in from the 40 Hour Challenge organisation to talk to us about what we could do as a school and as individuals to help make an impact and help others in need.
