Success for HGHS Touch

Robyn Ferrier —

2024 has been a great year for the sport of Touch at Hamilton Girls' High School.

In Term 1 we had four mixed ability teams playing in the Waikato Secondary School module coached by our senior players.  The teams trained once a week and a good number of players were developed. They grew their skills and knowledge and represented the school with class.  This programme continued in Term 4 with some additional players joining, learning and having fun with their friends.

We were also the first school to enter two teams, a Premier Reserve and a Premier, at the 2024 NZ Secondary School Touch Nationals held in Rotorua in December. Both teams performed extremely well and represented our school with determination, tenacity and pride.  The Premiers were the eventual tournament winners claiming the NZ Secondary School title showing guts and grit to get glory!

We acknowledge the first class effort, attitude and potential of the players in all of our teams.  We thank the Sports Department and ground staff of our school for their administration and resource support.

We look forward to continuing to provide these opportunities for our students in 2025 at whatever level they enjoy - social or high performance.
