Cross Country success for HGHS

Kerry Rattray —

HGHS students win at Zones Cross Country.

On a sunny late May afternoon, 11 students competed in the Zones Cross Country event at Tauhara Park, Hamilton. Year 9's and Juniors ran 3km, while Seniors ran 4km. Success came with Year 9 Olivia Cooley placing in the top 10 in the Year 9 race. Next, Nisha Moorfield took the win in the Junior Girls' race in 12'10s, with Carenza Elley placing 4th. Then, Molly Peate won the Senior Girls' race in a time of 17'48s, followed by Kate Hayward placing 4th.

In June, a team of eight traveled to Waipuna Park, Tauranga, for the WaiBop Cross Country Champs where the sun was shining yet again. Nisha Moorfield again performed admirably, placing 2nd in the Junior Girls' category with a time of 11'56s. Carenza Elley came 4th, and Sarah-Kate Nicholas came 10th, resulting in the team securing second place in the team event (just one placing short of first). Well done to all athletes.
