Hamilton Girls' High School Barbershop Chorus hits a high note with International Collaboration
The Hamilton Girls' High School Barbershop Chorus, Uptown Girls, recently had the extraordinary opportunity to work with esteemed American Barbershop tutor, Kim Newcomb, and talented arranger, Rowena Harper.
This unique collaboration led to our chorus performing Harper's arrangement of "No Bad News,"along with an arrangement of "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins at the Waikato Regional Young Singers competition.
Kim Newcomb, who travelled all the way from the USA, brought with her a wealth of experience and inspiration. She is a member of the reigning world champion barbershop quartet, making her visit an exceptional treat for the students. Her work, along with that of Rowena Harper and Jane Martin, has inspired our students to lift their performance to new heights.
Our quartet "Oxymoron" were top Novice quartet and our chorus, up against stiff opposition, placed second which has given them entry to the national finals in Wellington.
Well done to everyone who has helped prepare our Barbershoppers for these competitions.
