Keita Perry receives Pou Ahurea (Māori Person of the Year) at University of Waikato Blues Awards

Keita Perry is a name that might be familiar to many in the HGHS community. Excelling in sport, Keita played lacrosse and cricket during her time at HGHS, she was also the Wilson House Captain in 2019. But it is lacrosse in particular that has brought her most recent recognition.

Keita was part of the New Zealand U19 Women’s team  that competed in Canada at the Lacrosse World Champs in 2019. Recently, she returned from Maryland after competing in the Women’s Lacrosse World Champs 2022. Keita scored nine goals and had two assists with her team coming 12th.

Speaking at the University of Waikato Blues Awards, Keita said she hopes to inspire the next generation. "I hope to inspire tamariki who bring their culture and experiences with them to kura, and feel celebrated. I also hope to use my degree to travel the world as well as continue to play lacrosse at a high-performance level, and eventually get involved in coaching."
