Waka Ama Secondary School Nationals
Hamilton Girls' High School has once again demonstrated its prowess in Waka Ama, achieving remarkable success at the 2025 Waka Ama Secondary School Nationals held at Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) in Rotorua.
This year's championship was the largest in its 22-year history, featuring over 2,200 rangatahi from 124 schools across Aotearoa.
HGHS has a longstanding tradition of excellence in Waka Ama. It affiliates with the local club at Hamilton Lake and participates annually in this event. The school's commitment to the sport was evident as its teams competed fiercely across various categories, showcasing exceptional teamwork, endurance, and paddling skills.
Special mention to our Under-19 Girls, who demonstrated remarkable endurance and synchronisation, securing a gold medal in the W6 500m event and a silver medal in the W6 250m event. Additionally, HGHS combined with Hamilton Boys’ High School to secure a gold medal in the W12 250m event.
HGHS's accomplishments at the Nationals are a testament to their rigorous training programs and the unwavering support from coaches, whānau, and the wider school community. Their performance serves as an inspiration to aspiring paddlers and reinforces the school's mission to empower young women to excel as innovative individuals.
