Athletics 2024 - NISS
The North Island Athletics Championships were held in Palmerston North on the 6th and 7th of April.
This event is the culmination of Secondary School students progressing from their school athletic sports to Zone Athletics, then to regionals (WAIBOPs). Generally only students placing in the top three in their event at the WAIBOPs can compete for their region at the North Island Championships. Students who qualified included Jamie Fell, Theresa Biladi, Losaline Lose, Zarah Rattray, Klynique Ratima, Ana Filgueiras, Carenza Elly and Molly Peate. Five HGHS students attended this event. Zarah Rattray came first in the 100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, 4x100m Relay and second in the Triple Jump. Jamie Fell came first in the Long Jump, second in the 80m Hurdles and 4th in the Triple Jump. Losaline Lose came first in the Discus and second in the Hammer. Theresa Biladi came 7th in the Long Jump and Klynique Ratima came 6th in the Javelin.
Zarah Rattray and Losaline Lose have been selected to represent New Zealand in 2024. Zarah in the NZSS Classics Tour Team, the Australian Championships Team and the Oceania Championship Team, and Losaline in Australian Championships Team.
