Hamilton Girls' High School —

Bring Your Own Device is important to Hamilton Girls' High School and our eVision that aims to empower 21st century learners.

At Hamilton Girls’ High School our eVision is for students to be confident, responsible digital citizens who are collaborative, critical thinkers, able to construct knowledge.

The expectation is that students will bring their own device to school.

Our Infrastructure

Full time on-site technical support available to students.

The Advantages of BYOD

A student-owned device allows students anytime, anywhere access to Educational resources and important information in our school environment.

Students can:

  • Access schemes, resources, tasks and groups via schoology.
  • Create digital folders that they have ready access to (no more lost books).
  • Access their personal school google account to create, manage and learn.
  • Collaborate and communicate with teachers and classmates.
  • Work independently on personalised programmes; and
  • Access lessons in some instances.
  • Become active partners in their learning.

Buying the Right Device

Chromebooks are generally the cheapest option and work very well with our Google tools in school. Chromebooks work in a Google Apps environment and you do not need to install software on them. These are very suitable for Year 9 and 10 students in particular.

Laptops, Notebooks, and MacBooks are generally the more expensive option but they support all of the software required in the school. This is usually the preferred choice for senior students who may prefer a device that supports software specific to their courses (e.g. Design, Digital Technology, etc).

Tablets (e.g. iPads, Android Tablets) are able to be used in most situations, however, it is highly recommended that they are also used with an external keyboard.

Whatever device you decide to purchase, please make sure it meets the considerations below:

Considerations:

  • Phones are not acceptable devices.

  • Minimum screen size of 11”.

  • Weight: needs to be manageable for your child to carry all day.

  • RAM: ideally a minimum of 4GB.

  • Robustness: it should be durable and have a protective case or cover.

  • Battery: recommended minimum of 5 hours.

  • Anti-virus software: recommended.

  • Insurance: we cannot accept responsibility for devices which are lost, stolen or damaged.
