Matariki holds great importance to us as a nation, and this year for the first time we were able to celebrate it as a public holiday.

We as a school held our own celebrations for staff and students to get involved with, organized by our Kāhui Arataki Leadership Group and Manukura Māori prefect.

We started off our week with a whānau group activity  making paper stars, where each student could contribute to creating a section of a star. This was then put together to be hung in a display in front the wharenui during our lunchtime activities.

We then had a few fun activities planned for Thursday lunchtime before our long weekend. We had the privilege of learning a poi routine from two of our talented kapa haka students.

We also played a few rounds of Pūkana and had students learning to make their own harakeke stars.

To top it all off, we had a sausage sizzle for everyone who participated in our activities.

 A big thank you to Whaea Hollie and all our girls who lent a hand in organising and running our events. It was a successful week and we were glad to see so many of our students getting involved.
