Geography Students represent HGHS at the New Zealand Planning Institute Seminar

Hamish Berkers —

On Wednesday 21st March, three Geography students represented the school at the New Zealand Planning Institute Seminar at Claudelands Arena.

This day involved learning about what a career in town planning can offer and how it is a job where you can make a difference in your community and the wider world. Talks from speakers from the University of Waikato and also current planners helped students get a sneak peek into what your day-to-day life could look like as a town planner e.g. from managing coastal erosion for communities in Thames, to designing a whole new neighbourhood such as Peacocke, Hamilton. Furthermore, this day highlighted just how relevant geography is as a subject. Students were able to see how the topics and skills that they learned in class could be applied to the outside world. If you would like to know more about a career in town planning, see the Careers Office or Ms Wood.
