A message from the editor
Introducing issue #6 of the Hamilton Girls’ High School 'Lionheart' (student magazine), exploring the theme: 'Own your identity - Purutia tō tuakiritanga'
Through this overarching statement, the pages of this edition flip between female inspirations of the past, embracing and appreciating our native tongues, finding balance within our individual lives as well as navigating individuality in generation Z.
By the students, for the students - 'Lionheart' provides a platform for aspiring writers, entrepreneurs, journalists and CEO’s, embedded with a diverse range of opinions, advice and guides for your schooling years and beyond. But as a whole, Lionheart continues to be our way to showcase who we are as students - this is us, owning our identity.
To kick things off are some introductory ideas written by a couple of our 2022 executive council, setting the scene for the exciting articles to follow. Here we capture their thoughts and answers to the question: “What does the phrase 'Own your identity’ mean to you?”
Lastly, to the academic council, staff and designing team, this edition is only possible with your mahi. It is undoubtedly clear that HGHS is filled with many visionary women, this magazine being a tautoko to the talent held by students within our school community. He rau ringa e oti ai - Many hands make light work.
As we express ourselves in the following articles, I encourage you: lean in, learn, reflect and utilise all that is woven through the pages to come.
Happy reading.
Alex Matai’a,
HGHS Academic Captain.
