Girls' High Barbershop Quartet rise through the ranks to take out third at the National Young Singers in Harmony Convention.

One of Hamilton Girls’ High School's quartets secured a medal at this year’s Young Singers In Harmony National Convention held on the 21 September at the Regent in Palmerston North.

“Acute Angle” made up of Year 12 students, Reipae Dunn, Ruby Messent, Karma Newton-King and Eila Posimani-McCay competed in the upper voices quartet section. 

Judged at a professional level, they scored an average of 70.8% placing them 3rd in the upper voices category and 4th overall. Previous cancellations due to COVID meant that this year was the quartet’s first appearance at the national convention. Going from placing third at regionals in 2021 to third at nationals is a huge achievement for the girls, and one they are incredibly proud of.

They would like to give special thanks to their coach Jane Martin and assistant coach Natassja Medina, who were an immense help on their road to competition.

The girls are already prepping for the coming year, with plans to compete in both the Young Singers In Harmony and Barbershop Harmony NZ competitions.
