The start of Ramadan
Ramadan began on the evening of Wednesday, March 22 and lasts until the evening of Friday, April 21.
Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims, and involves not only fasting but also increasing good deeds and values. If you’d like to greet a Muslim during Ramadan and wish them well, you say “Ramadan Mubarak”.
We have many students and staff who are Muslim at HGHS.
During the 30 days of Ramadan, Muslims give up food and drink from pre-dawn until just after sunset. Muslims believe that by fasting, they can better understand how well off they are and remember that millions of the world’s people are starving. The purpose of fasting is to develop God-consciousness, self-control, and health improvement by reducing or eliminating impurities from the body and to become aware of the troubles of the poor, sick, and hungry.
We understand that the requirements associated with Ramadan can be difficult for some students, but our staff are aware and educated on these.
We have a prayer room at school located in G2.
We hope our Muslim whānau have a memorable Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr celebration on April 21st.
