HGHS welcomes all new staff and students with an innovative whakatau on the first day of school

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā waka, e ngā kārangatanga maha, tēnei te reo pōwhiri o Ngā Tamāhine o Kirikiriroa e whakatau nei i a koutou katoa. Paimārire.

Our pōwhiri took an innovative revamp with an online whakatau for the official welcome of 2022. A small group of Year 9 students, along with new teacher Whaea Ngareta Takiari, represented all new staff and students as the Executive Prefects Council and Senior Leadership Team welcomed everyone into our whānau. This was all captured and beamed live to all classrooms in the school by media students Te Aniwaniwa and Morgan, as well as teachers Ms Kenny and Mr Berkers.

We are proud to hold onto tikanga Māori as a foundation of our school community, and this innovation has set the tone for how we shall continue to foster a sense of belonging and whanaungatanga in the weeks ahead. Thanks to all our staff and students for making this event possible.
