UN Youth Workshop

Jenna Holland —

Earlier this month, the girls in our Junior Ignite and Senior Social Studies classes had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a workshop run by UN Youth New Zealand, an organisation which specialises in civic education.

A few weeks ago, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting a UN Youth workshop, run by some fantastic volunteers from the programme. These workshops are constructed to engage young people in discussions and activities related to global issues and sustainable development. They are designed to provide young people with an opportunity to voice their opinions, ideas, and perspectives on various topics, and to empower them to take action and become advocates for positive change in their communities.

In this specific workshop, we were split into groups and assigned a topic. We then had to assess and discuss the blame we would assign to each group involved in the theoretical issue. Assigning blame to different groups can be a useful exercise in understanding the complexity of these issues and can help identify the root causes of problems.
