Sign me up! Co-curricular Expo

Margot Rawlings —

On Friday 18th of February, Year 9 students had an opportunity to visit the Large Gym and speak to senior students promoting over 30 co-curricular Sports and Arts Clubs and activities offered by HGHS.

Singers serenaded classes of students into the space, stalls drew in students with examples of previous years' members' efforts, athletes tossed balls around and Pasifika dancers mesmerised the crowd. And there were plenty of Seniors on hand to tout for members. The gym buzzed with enthusiasm and creativity.

"The EXPO has exceeded all our expectations," said Deputy Principal in Charge of Art and Sport, Mr West.

"New students have so much information to absorb at the start of the year and this has proven to be the perfect way to present what HGHS has going on outside the classroom in Art and Sport."

Covid and uncertainty around the weather meant a controllable inside space was the best venue for the EXPO. "In 2023 we will aim for an outside venue to allow all HGHS co curricular clubs and groups to participate in one event," Mr West explained.

Students who remain undecided after Friday's event are still welcome to join up and can make enquiries with the Arts Co-ordinator or Sport Department, Prefects or Teachers in Charge. And there will be a call in the near future for other year groups to come and join the fun.
