Sports Strategic Plan

Hamilton Girls' High School —

This strategic statement sets out the strategy to achieve our vision of becoming "New Zealand's number one girls sport school".

The Performance Sport programme at Hamilton Girls High School will be established to create a holistically lead, athlete focused, performance driven and sustainable system, which provides athletes with facilities and quality athletic development services.

The programme will be enhanced by the engagement of specialised performance resources, sport specific coaches and management, sporting administration and supported by a resourced volunteer base.

The programme will be holistic in nature. Participation within this system will require students to achieve within the classroom, be leaders and contributors within the school environment and adherence to the physical requirements that are set.

Hamilton Girls' High School sees performance relevant to all areas of school life. Hamilton Girls'  High School will offer the opportunity for all students to reach their potential and the highest standards possible in culture, academics, service and sport.

In sport, our most successful athletes will act as role models and encourage other students on and off the field. The Performance Sport programme will be designed to support our athletes so that they can perform to their full potential.

Performance Sport is strengthened by a foundation of Participation Sport for the purpose of Hauora (Wellbeing). Research shows that physical activity is closely correlated with healthy mental wellbeing (Sport NZ, 2018). Hamilton Girls’ High School is focused on encouraging and growing all participants in sport, and helping them realise their potential. It is envisaged that a heightened commitment to Performance Sport will widen participation opportunities, as interest grows within the wider school community to be part of a successful sports programme. Performance outcomes articulate the intent for national leading participation rates to reflect our commitment to Participation Sport for improved Hauora (Wellbeing).

The values of the school will underpin the Performance Sport programme through both the establishment phase and the sustainability of this system.
