New York University Summer Film Programme

Brittany Kenny —

Head Girl does one month film course at NYU - earning a 4.0 grade point average!

In 2022, Rebecca completed a summer programme with New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. The course is designed for prospective students with the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, or teenagers interested in pursuing film. This four week intensive consisted of daily instruction; seminars with NYU instructor, Professor Gay Abel-Bey, group simulations and guest lectures with notable alumni and figures in the industry. Work submitted over this time contributed to the final grade (worth 4 college credits). This varied from pitches, production books, scripts and films (rough and final cuts). Rebecca made several different films, including a documentary about her grandparents. Each student’s individual final film was showcased at Kanbar’s film showcase in August this year in New York City.

Rebecca earned a 4.0 grade point average in the course - top marks - with absolutely glowing feedback. Well done to this fantastic young filmmaker - no doubt many of us will eagerly be following her future film career.

NYU's film programme consistently ranks in the top 5 of world wide schools for film. Famous alumni include Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese and recent Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, the first female Asian to win a Best Director award. To have a student from Hamilton Girls' High School participate in this programme is an absolute honour and achievement. Well done to Rebecca Yuan for her hardwork and dedication to the craft of filmmaking.
