Premier Netball New Zealand Champions!

Kim Howard —

We qualified first at the recent Upper North Island Secondary School tournament, and took the UNISS trophy - the first time the trophy has left Auckland in the last 19 years. Our Premier Netball Team then headed to Wellington in the school holidays to compete against the best 16 netball schools in the country.

Qualifying first meant we were ranked number 1 heading into the NZ National Tournament. We would compete against the best teams in the country, our pool consisted of St Peter's, St Hilda's and St Mary's.

Finishing top of our pool took us into the Top 8 where we met Columba, Howick and St Kentigern's. Winning this pool would guarantee us a spot in the Grand Final. We had some tough matches getting to that final, and we knew that to be the best we would have to beat the best. And we did!

Meeting the top of the other pool in the final, St Margaret's College Christchurch, was the showdown of the only two undefeated teams in the tournament.

Our team came out firing in a beautiful display of netball and took a 6 goal lead in the first quarter. We were clinical in attack, relentless in defence and continued building pressure taking the game 29-17 and winning the title of New Zealand Secondary School Netball Champions!

What an incredible year for Premier Netball. Winners of the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Zone Secondary School championship, winning UNISS and winning the NZ title!
