HGHS win two relays at Waikato Swimming Champs

Nine girls represented Hamilton Girls' High at Water World on Thursday 26th May. They came away with 5th place overall, 2 x U14 relay wins, along with individual wins!

Nine swimmers represented HGHS at the Waikato Secondary School Swimming Champs: Pippa Mihaka, Addison Welch, Hunter Cresswell, Alice Bruning, Willow Watene, Giuliana Macdonald, Caitlyn Biddulph, Eva Saxton and Michelia Tanner-Scott (Willow Watene and Eva Saxton are missing from group photo). 

All of the girls raced competitively and we had five girls make the finals! 

Alice Bruning placed first in the U13 girls 50m breaststroke final, followed by Hunter Cresswell in second place. Hunter also placed second in the U13 girls 50m backstroke final. Pippa Mihaka took out first place for the 14-15 year old girls 50m and 100m backstroke.

Alice came 2nd in the U13 girls 100m individual medley (IM) and Hunter came in 3rd with both girls gaining a personal best (PB) time! Pippa secured 2nd place in the 14-15 girls 100m IM, 0.21 seconds behind the 1st place getter! 

Addison Welch placed 14th in the U13 girls 50m butterfly and 19th in the U13 girls 100m freestyle. Michelia Tanner-Scott came 15th in the U13 girls 50m butterfly and 23rd in the U13 girls 100m freestyle. Willow Watene came 12th in the U13 girls 50m breaststroke and 13th in the U13 girls 50m backstroke. Giuliana Macdonald came 15th in the U13 girls 50m backstroke, 10th in the U13 girls 100m backstroke and 8th in the U13 girls 100m breaststroke. Eva Saxton came 10th in the 14-15 girls 50m backstroke, 9th in the 100m backstroke and 15th in the 100m IM. Caitlyn Biddulph placed 9th in the U13 girls 100m IM and gained a PB, and placed 16th in the U13 girls 100m freestyle. 

The last events for the day were the  4 x 25m IM and freestyle relays. In the IM relay, Pippa started the team off with backstroke, Alice was next with breaststroke, then Hunter with butterfly and finally Addison with freestyle. The girls had a very convincing win, with a first place time of 1:01.53.
The girls brought another win home in the 4 x 25m freestyle relay, with Pippa starting the team again, Addison second, Hunter third and Alice the last swimmer, finishing in first place with 55.32.

Hamilton Girls' came away in 5th place overall! Big congratulations to all nine swimmers, they were an absolute credit to the school and amazing to watch!
