An official welcome to all new International students who have chosen to study in the Waikato was held at The Pā at the University of Waikato. Students from about 20 schools were represented.

The Mayor of Hamilton, Paula Southgate, spoke about the importance of International students studying at primary, secondary, and tertiary level in the Waikato and the diversity of ideas and culture that they bring to our region.

Performances from St John's Kapa haka and Waikato Community Pasifika groups were part of the event.

All of the students enjoyed a Kiwiana-themed morning tea afterwards and had the opportunity to write a postcard home to their families overseas.
