Introducing the Junior Pastoral Team

Focusing on supporting Year 9 and 10 students’ wellbeing and their academic, social and personal outcomes.
The Year 9 Deans have focused this term on enabling the 382 Year 9 students to manage the transition into high school life. This has meant helping students to navigate their timetables, find out where everything is, make connections with new friends and explore the wide range of opportunities available at HGHS.
Meanwhile, the Year 10 Deans have been ensuring a smooth return to school for the 372 Year 10 students, with students focused on getting into good routines of regular attendance, engagement and self-management. Year 10 is an important step in a student’s path towards NCEA and students are encouraged to make this year the one when they prepare a strong foundation for their senior school years.
The Deans hope that Term 2 will be a more favourable environment to get all students back to attending school regularly, focused on achieving positive outcomes in all aspects of their school life.
