Chromebooks are generally the cheapest option and work very well with our Google tools in school. Chromebooks work in a Google Apps environment and you do not need to install software on them. These are very suitable for Year 9 and 10 students in particular.
Laptops, Notebooks, and MacBooks are generally the more expensive option but they support all of the software required in the school. This is usually the preferred choice for senior students who may prefer a device that supports software specific to their courses (e.g. Design, Digital Technology, etc).
Tablets (e.g. iPads, Android Tablets) are able to be used in most situations, however, it is highly recommended that they are also used with an external keyboard.
Whatever device you decide to purchase, please make sure it meets the considerations below:
Considerations:
Phones are not acceptable devices.
Minimum screen size of 11”.
Weight: needs to be manageable for your child to carry all day.
RAM: ideally a minimum of 4GB.
Robustness: it should be durable and have a protective case or cover.
Battery: recommended minimum of 5 hours.
Anti-virus software: recommended.
Insurance: we cannot accept responsibility for devices which are lost, stolen or damaged.
